10 Veggies To Plant In May

What crops to seed in May

Spring Planting

It’s officially May, and many of us at high altitudes are feeling more than ready to get planting in the garden. However, most of us that live in the mountains know that a chance of Winter is always possible usually through the middle of June. We can have 60+ degree days and nearly freezing nights. A drastic swing in temperatures can make it difficult in knowing what to plant when at higher elevations.

I’m here to tell you that with a little attention there are a few crops you can get seeded in your garden right now. These crops are winter hearty, frost tolerant, and love to be planted with cooler night temperatures. Keep in mind that as a farmer you always need to be checking your weather reports daily in case there are any unexpected temperature swings that dip below freezing, or snow shows up in the forecast. Should freezing temps and weather arise, use sheets, or row covers to protect your new seedlings.
